Secretary Sebelius Announces Medicare To Join State-Based Healthcare Delivery System Reform Initiatives

Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, along with Vermont Governor Jim Douglas and Director of the White House Office of Health Reform Nancy-Ann DeParle today announced an initiative that will allow Medicare to join Medicaid, and private insurers in state-based efforts to improve the way health care is delivered. Innovative models of delivering primary care around the country are examples of the types of programs that will be part of the President’s health reform plan.

MDA, Walgreens Join Forces To Offer Seasonal Flu Shots

Continuing a service it has provided for decades, the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) is again offering seasonal flu shots to people who have muscular dystrophy and related diseases. To assist individuals in obtaining an immunization this flu season, MDA is again teaming up with Walgreens to offer shots at more than 7,000 Walgreens points of care across the country, including its stores in all 50 states and 340 Take Care Clinics, through a voucher program beginning Sept. 1.

Nanopatches To Join The Fight Against Swine Flu

In response to the growing threat of swine flu, a UQ team is applying nanopatch technology to potentially solve the problems associated with vaccinating millions of Australians, thanks to a recently announced government grant. Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (AIBN) researcher Professor Mark Kendall heads a team testing the potency of mass vaccinations using only a fraction of the standard dose.
