Unlike “acute pain,” which generally results from specific injury or illness, chronic pain can result from any number of conditions and can persist for, in some cases, years. Among the most common forms of chronic pain are headache; cancer pain; low back pain; arthritis; and psychogenic pain, which is not rooted in any specific injury or condition.
